We Help You Write With Courage, Conviction, and Confidence

Each year we listen to admissions departments, talk with college admission counselors, and conduct research to ensure students are up to speed on current essay trends. It’s important for students to understand the playing field.

Your essay, based on a personal experience must touch on a universal feeling.
— Rachel Toor, Write Your Way In: Crafting an Unforgettable College Admissions Essay,

We understand the challenges students face as they sit down to write the essay. Not only do they face the blank page and limitless possibilities, but today's students also face several technical questions: do I need to follow the stylistic lessons I learned in English? Are contractions taboo? Are onomatopoeias okay? Should I talk about my pandemic experience?

Blending current college admission trends with proven writing strategies we encourage students to find and then share their authentic voice revealing whom they have become today and how they think.

The essay becomes a snapshot of the student’s best self. We teach students how to garner the attention of the application reader. The application reader, in turn, advocates on behalf of the student before the admissions committee.

...at the country’s most selective schools, there is something of a merit crisis: As test scores and GPAs hold less sway admission offices are searching for other inevitably more subjective metrics.

How We Help:

  • We engage students in a personal one-on-one discussion, getting to know them through questions and exercises that we find to be most helpful at getting students to talk about what matters to them.

  • We make sure students land on a topic of genuine interest and personal to them and contain a clear thematic focus and authenticity specific to the student. Thus the singular voice of the student shines through.

We brainstorm with students to ensure that their topic is of genuine interest to them, so their authentic voice comes through in their writing.

  • We ensure there is a single theme for their essay so the reader is not confused with a litany of messages.

  • We help students understand that the topic of their essay is on the surface, and the key message lies below.

  • We help students develop an essay that engages the reader.

Most importantly, we help students develop their key message.

  • As students learn that their topic is not the same as their key message, it frees up the creative process, and they tend to write with more enthusiasm.

  • Through a few careful, intention-driven discussions with a student, their message becomes clear to them. They can say something meaningful about who they have become, what they have learned, or what they might have figured out about where they are headed.

  • We help students demonstrate to the admissions committee why they are a good fit for their school.

  • We ensure that their essay leaves the reader satisfied.
